Artist Statement
My work explores the relationship between triumph over adversities and personal power. I use color, line, and theme to explore perceived boundaries in experiences in relation to emotions. I want viewers to notice alternative realities and possibilities that could exist when the perception changes. I am inspired mostly by Women, Nature, Music, and Literature. I hope to provide a positive and diverse representation of Black people. I also want to invite viewers to look deeper for knowledge of self and the ability to create a narrative of their own.
I use Acrylic, Oil and Watercolor paints to create images that capture traits of confidence, beauty, and strength. My desire is to uplift and inspire people by using my art to tell stories of victory over adversities.
I started my practice to express my passion for art and people who may feel forgotten. Art gives me the opportunity to express my thoughts and emotions when I have not yet found the words to articulate them. My intention is to promote healing, well-being, and balance. I want to create a variety of art by collaborating with other artist to achieve the overall goal of representing my community and telling their stories as well. Success for my practice is defined by inspiring and encouraging as many people as possible through art.
